1. What is revalidation and recognition of a diploma?
Procedure performed by a Brazilian institution for the declaration of equivalence of undergraduate or postgraduate diplomas awarded by foreign higher education establishments, making them suitable for the purposes established by Law.

2. What is the difference between revalidation and recognition of diplomas?
The Revalidation of Diplomas will be applied to the processing of foreign undergraduate courses, while the recognition of foreign diplomas will apply to diplomas of postgraduate courses (masters and doctorates) issued by foreign universities.

3. Can revalidation or recognition be required for diplomas obtained in any country?
There is no restriction of countries issuing diplomas for revalidation or recognition. The restriction applies only to foreign institutions and courses that may have practiced irregularities directly or indirectly in Brazil. The list of these institutions and courses will be transmitted to the Ministry of Education by the revalidating and recognizing universities, and, when available, will be made available on the Carolina Bori Portal .

4. Does the revalidation and / or recognition apply to diplomas related to any undergraduate or postgraduate course obtained abroad?
All undergraduate and postgraduate degrees (masters and doctorates) must be recognized by regularly accredited Brazilian universities that have courses in the same knowledge.

5. How long can I receive the result of my order analysis?
The process of revalidation and recognition of diplomas must be admitted at any time by UNIFAL-MG and will have a period of 180 (one hundred and eighty) days for the issuance of the opinion. This period starts from the availability of all legible requested documents and the confirmation of payment receipt (sent by UNIFAL-MG through Carolina Bori portal ).

6. Is it necessary to take exams / tests?
The application of tests or exams may occur in two contexts: to complement the analysis, when there are doubts about the actual equivalence of the course or as a substitution of the documentation analysis process; and in case of foreign refugees in Brazil who are not in possession of the documentation required for revalidation, which may be submitted to proof of knowledge, contents and skills related to the entire course as an exclusive form of evaluation. The tests and exams should be given in Portuguese, organized and applied by the responsible institution.

7. How should I proceed if the institution from which my diploma comes is not in a Hague Conference (Apostille: Convention de La Haye) signatory country?
If your diploma comes from an institution located in a country that is not yet a signatory to the apostille convention, you must follow the usual procedure. Your documents must be taken to a consular representation of Brazil in that country, which will then proceed to consular authentication. 8. Undergraduate abd postgraduate diplomas obtained online in e-learning can be revalidated or recognized in Brazil?
The revalidation of diplomas must be done by federal universities duly accredited in the Ministry of Education, for distance education modality; and that they have an offer of undergraduate distance course equivalent to that referred to in the diploma in analysis.
This is valid only for undergraduate courses, however, the recognition of postgraduate degrees by Brazilian legislation is done on a case by case basis, by a Brazilian university that teaches equivalent courses and is recognized by CAPES (CAPES is a Foundation within the Ministry of Education in Brazil whose central purpose is to coordinate efforts to improve the quality of Brazil’s faculty and staff in higher education through grant programs).

9. What are the foreign courses or universities whose diplomas are automatically recognized in Brazil?
In order for them to be valid in Brazil, all undergraduate and postgraduate diplomas must be revalidated or recognized by a Brazilian higher education institution that is regularly accredited and has a course in the same area of ​​knowledge . Therefore, no foreign university degree is automatically recognized in Brazil.

10. I did a masters or doctorate that does not provide dissertation writing / thesis. Can it be recognized?
Postgraduate is a system of courses designed to favor scientific research and advanced training. Its immediate objective is to provide the student with an in-depth knowledge that allows him to reach a high level of scientific or technical- professional competence . In addition to these immediate practical interests, the postgraduate course aims to offer, within the university, the environment and the resources necessary for free scientific investigation to be carried out, in which creation can be affirmed in the highest forms of university culture. It is essential to have a final course conclusion.

11. My foreign undergraduate course does not provide nomination or pedagogical project, how should I proceed?
The nominata of the course is the list of teachers who give classes in the course, followed by the academic formation of these teachers. This information can be obtained from institutions and is often available on the course website. The pedagogical project is the document that describes the training objectives, the skills and abilities expected to be developed with the students who complete the course activities, together with a description of the curricular structure, teaching strategies and evaluation adopted by the course. This description can be obtained from the direction of the program. Even in the case of a post-graduate course developed in a chair or laboratory (without a defined program structure), it is necessary to obtain a description of the activities developed by the candidate for the degree, specifying their contribution to the candidate’s academic formation. This document can be written by the responsible advisor. It is important to note that this information is essential for the evaluation of the training obtained by the candidate abroad. Without it, it is not feasible to advance in the processes of recognition of undergraduate degrees.

12. Do I need to revalidate my foreign diploma to study in Brazil?
According to Judgement No. 143/2014 of the Ministry of Education, there is no need to revalidate a diploma for study purposes.
