It is with deep sorrow that UNIFAL-MG mourns the death of Professor Theo Guenter Kieckbusch, which occurred on the night of 01/27/2021 in Campinas-SP. Acclaimed professor by several institutions after his retirement at Unicamp, he chose UNIFAL-MG, specifically the Campus of Poços de Caldas, as a place to continue working in the field of education and research so as to impart his knowledge and experience to young professors, technicians and students of our University.

His participation was essential for the implementation and consolidation of the Postgraduate  Chemical Engineering course at UNIFAL-MG on account of his participation in examination boards, several of which consisting of current professors, at the Institute of Science and Technology (ICT) and aiding in the preparation of the pedagogical plan of the course. He also acted as a senior visiting professor at the Poços de Caldas campus from 2012 to 2019, teaching undergraduates and postgraduates, advising scientific initiation and master’s degree students, and earning the admiration and respect of our students who, in turn, had the pleasure and privilege of being advised by such a fine master.

The creation of the Chemical Engineering Postgraduate Program at UNIFAL-MG (PPGEQ-UNIFAL) was only possible through his effective participation in conceiving the Program project, selecting the PPGEQ teaching staff and through a partnership with UNICAMP to establish a formal collaboration between the Institutions.

The scientific community mourns the loss of one of the greatest researchers in our country, whose professional acumen, sincerity, humility and altruism is found only in the finest. Society mourns the losss of a unique human being, such an example to be followed.

The passing of Professor Theo Guenter Kieckbusch has made such a huge impact on the academic community of Poços de Caldas campus, who would like to express the most heartfelt and sincere condolences to his family, friends, students and co-workers.
